Tina Calhoon, Owner & Chef, Frescos Southern Kitchen & Bar

Chef Tina Calhoon is a Florida native – born in Jacksonville and raised in Ocala. Her maternal roots hail from the south and include many days spent in the kitchen with her mom learning the cooking basics and giving her the best kind of culinary education…a real world one. This hands-on culinary training allowed Tina to build on her southern roots to create unique, new southern dishes, as well as regional and ethnic offerings that appeal to all palates.

Tina and her husband Tim, Frescos’ Director of Spirits and Entertainment, opened the doors to Frescos in 2009 with a vision that has seen them through three restaurant expansions over the last 10 years. Frescos has gone from small bistro to downtown destination, helping to revitalize the Downtown Lakeland dining scene while paving the way for other boutique restaurants to establish themselves here.

Bryant Black, Head of School, Lakeland Christian School

Bryant Black was named the new Head of School for the 2023-2024 school year at Lakeland Christian School after previously serving as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Prior to LCS, Bryant served as the Upper School Head at Chattanooga Christian School (CCS) in Chattanooga, Tennessee, from 2013 to 2019. Bryant began his educational career at CCS in 1995, serving as a history teacher and history department chair, as well as Director of Curriculum and Instruction, before his promotion to Upper School Head.

Bryant attended Vanderbilt University on a four-year Naval ROTC scholarship and went on to serve as a Surface Warfare Officer in the US Navy during Operation Desert Storm. Bryant and his wife Ashley raised three sons, Taylor, Porter, and Michael, at Chattanooga Christian School, all of whom attended the University of Tennessee.

Bryant loves the water, both sea and lake. He learned to waterski in Winter Haven while visiting his cousins on Lake Hamilton and shares an affinity for sailing with his wife Ashley. If he is AWOL, there is a good chance you will find him at Fernandina Beach searching for sharks teeth.
